Project New Roof: A Free Roof for a Family Who Needs One
Some families are one leak away from losing their home. A single mom stretching every dollar. A veteran on a fixed income. An elderly couple watching a ceiling stain spread and doing the math on a bill they can’t pay. Project New Roof exists for them.
Every year we give away a full roof replacement, no cost, to a family in our community who can’t cover it themselves. It’s the heart of why we’re called Charitable Roofing. You can nominate a family, follow the build, and see exactly where the help lands.
Our Story
Why We Started Giving Roofs Away
Charitable Roofing started with a simple idea that giving back shouldn’t be an afterthought. From day one, a portion of every job we do goes to a charity our customer picks. That’s the foundation. Project New Roof is where that foundation turned into something you can see and touch.
We kept running into the same heartbreak on service calls. A family with real damage, a real leak, and no way to pay for the fix. Insurance wouldn’t cover it, savings didn’t exist, and the roof kept getting worse. You can only turn down so many of those before you decide to do something about it.
So we did. Project New Roof takes one family a year who’s fallen through every crack, and we give them a brand-new roof over their heads. Same premium materials, same crew, same warranty our paying customers get. The only difference is the bill, which doesn’t exist.
What a New Roof Actually Changes
A roof isn’t just shingles. It’s the thing standing between a family and everything the weather throws at them. When it fails, the damage doesn’t stop at the ceiling.
Water gets in and it spreads fast. Insulation gets soaked and stops working, so heating and cooling bills climb. Mold takes hold in the walls and the air, which is a real health problem for kids and anyone with breathing trouble. The wood structure starts to rot, and a cheap fix becomes an expensive one. A family already struggling watches a bad situation get worse every month they can’t afford to act.
A new roof stops all of that in a single week. The leaks end. The energy bills drop because the attic seals up right. The house holds its value instead of falling apart. Most of all, a parent stops lying awake during every storm wondering if tonight’s the night the ceiling gives. That peace is the part you can’t put a price on, and it’s the part we care about most.
Know Someone Who Needs This? Tell Us
You probably know a family this could help. A neighbor, a coworker, a member of your church, someone in your own family who’s too proud to ask. Nominating them takes a few minutes, and it might change their whole year.
Here’s how it works. You fill out the nomination form with the family’s story, their situation, and why their roof needs help. Tell us what’s going on, both with the roof and with the reasons they can’t fix it. Photos help if you have them, but they’re not required. You can nominate someone else or, if you’re the one in need, you can nominate yourself. There’s no shame in it.
Once nominations close, our team reviews every one. We look at the condition of the roof, the family’s circumstances, and where we can do the most good. We reach out to the families we’re considering, do an inspection, and pick our recipient. Then the real work starts.

Every roof we give away is one family helped directly. But the reach goes further than the one house, and that’s on purpose.
Project New Roof runs alongside the give-back built into all our regular work. A slice of every paid job already goes to a charity our customer chooses, so the more roofs we install, the more we’re able to pour back into the neighborhoods we serve. Birmingham, Atlanta, Nashville, Louisville, and every town in between. When you hire us for your own roof, you’re part of this. Who qualifies for a free roof?
Families who genuinely can’t afford a roof replacement and whose roof is in real need. We weigh the condition of the roof, the household’s financial situation, and where the help will matter most. Homeowners, mainly, since we’re replacing a roof on a home the family owns. Every nomination gets a real look.
How do you choose the recipient?
After nominations close, our team reviews all of them, inspects the strongest cases in person, and picks the family where a new roof changes the most. It’s not a lottery. We’re looking at need, roof condition, and impact. It’s one of the hardest calls we make each year, because there are always more deserving families than roofs we can give.
Can I nominate myself?
Yes. If you’re the one struggling with a failing roof and no way to pay for it, nominate yourself. There’s nothing to be embarrassed about. Plenty of hardworking people hit a stretch where a roof is simply out of reach, and that’s exactly who this is for.
Does it cost anything to nominate someone?
Nothing. Nominating is free and takes a few minutes. The family you nominate pays nothing either, and if they’re chosen, the entire roof, materials and labor, is covered by us.
How can I support Project New Roof?
The simplest way is to hire us for your own roof. Part of every job funds this program and a charity you choose. You can also spread the word, nominate families who need help, and follow our builds so more people learn the program exists. This grows through the community, not around it.
